Downton Abbey fans will remember the 45-carat diamond tiara worn by Lady Mary on her wedding day. The original tiara is now available for hire! It puts a whole new slant on the traditional "something borrowed"!
The price tag may deter all but die hard fans of the PBS historical drama, however. For approximately $2,000 per day, the London-based jeweler, Bentley & Skinner, will lend the Georgian-style headdress that has a floral and garland motif but the $200,000 deposit required may limit the number of women who chose to don the famous headpiece!
The jewelers describe the tiara design as a spray of leaves and floral clusters pavé-set throughout with old-cut diamonds. The Georgian tiara actually dates back to 1800.
If wearing Lady Mary's tiara is not enough, for $24,069 the most avid fans can have their wedding at Highclere Castle in Newbury, UK - the real-life location of the
Downton Abbey series.
