Hugh Jackman Teases "Huge" Announcement Coming Thursday Morning

https://ift.tt/2FQ0ln5

Former Wolverine actor Hugh Jackman is teasing a "huge" announcement for Thursday morning on The Today Show, and it's anyone's guess what it'll be. It seems so long ago at this point, but there was once a time before Jackman was a household name, and one of the most popular actors in Hollywood. Before landing the role of Wolverine in director Bryan Singer's first X-Men movie, Jackman quietly plied his trade in movies and TV shows produced in his native Australia.

Of course, Jackman's performance as Wolverine was received incredibly well by both fans and critics, and a new cinematic superhero icon was born. Jackman has since played many other memorable characters - even recently adding former presidential hopeful Gary Hart to that list with The Front Runner - but it's clear Wolverine aka Logan will forever be his signature role. Jackman's Wolverine went on to have leading roles in X2: X-Men United, X-Men: The Last Stand, X-Men Origins: Wolverine, The Wolverine, X-Men: Days of Future Past, and Logan, as well as make cameos in X-Men: First Class and X-Men: Apocalypse.

At this point, it's hard for fans to imagine anyone other than Jackman playing Wolverine on film, but as the actor has said himself, eventually someone else will take over the role, probably when the X-Men join the MCU. Despite constant prodding by friend Ryan Reynolds to do a Deadpool/Wolverine crossover movie, Jackman seems intent on staying retired after Logan. Recently though, the Aussie actor teased via social media that when he appears on NBC's The Today Show on Thursday morning, he'll be making a big, exclusive announcement. No indication was given as to what the announcement will be.

Now obviously, since this is Hugh Jackman, most fans are likely to see the actor's post and immediately assume the announcement will involve Wolverine and/or the X-Men. It's what he's most known for, after all. That said, Jackman isn't just a movie star. He also performs regularly in the realm of live theater, and is also very active when it comes to charitable causes. Just because Jackman has some news to reveal, doesn't mean it'll have anything to do with a film.

Furthermore, even if Jackman's announcement does have to do with a film, it may still not involve Wolverine. For instance, just last year, Jackman played another memorable role, this time as P.T. Barnum in the The Greatest Showman. The movie musical earned $434 million worldwide on a budget of $84 million, despite poor reviews. Perhaps Jackman's announcement will be that he's taking The Greatest Showman on the road, as a live theatrical production. However, if by some magic Jackman does announce a Wolverine-related thing, the most likely candidate would be a cameo in the soon to open Once Upon a Deadpool. For now, all fans can do is wait and wonder.
