Instructions included: (below)
This is cool and really value for money, because I've been wanting to get a theBalm blush for a long, long time, after having read quite a number of raves. =)
This face palette includes DownBoy and Hot Mama!
I totally adore the names of theBalm colours. They are all so unique.
Packaging
This comes in a hard cardboard palette, and close via magnets. I like magnet cases because that means I do not have to use my nails when they are too long, and risk breaking my nails.
Colours
The flaps open upwards and downwards as can be seen below. And the top flap has a really large mirror! =D That's why I say it's good for taking out in the handbag.
And the lip colours at the bottom.
Swatches
I've swatched the colours above in their order inside the palette.
From the top, left to right, DownBoy, Hot Mama, Mary-Lou Manizer, Shady Lady x 2, Read My Lips, and Special Edition
My Take On The Colours
I think DownBoy is a really soft pink, and it reminds me of Benefit Hervana, which I just tested at a Tangs Counter today (I was so disappointed that it look as flat as this that I thought, forget it, I don't want to buy).
It looks cold tone to me, so I was quite afraid it wouldn't look good on my cheeks, but surprisingly, it turned out well. =)
Hot Mama is champagne pink, much like soft and light version of my Urban Decay Primer Potion in Sin. It is another strange colour that I am not sure if I can wear because it looks sheer.
But Hot Mama is definitely the shimmer/highlight cheek colour, because the instructions recommends using them together.
Mary-Lou Manizer is a true skin colour highlighter!!! OMG, it's such a wonderful match with my eyelid/browbone colour. And when I used on the inner corners of the eyes, it brightens and opens up my eyes so wide!
Shady Lady 1 is a shiny taupe colour that basically looks like brown when blended on my eyelids.
Shady Lady 2 is a really deep green that is slightly more matte than the other two eyeshadows. It reminds me of crocodiles. LOL. But it works very well as an eyeliner!
Read My Lips is a nice red red lipgloss. But it is very sticky, and I don't quite like the feel of it.
Special Edition ends up being more of a colourless lipgloss when applied on the lips because of the near-lips colour.
The Look!
Turns out much better than I expected, because I seldom use skin colours and dislike taupes, so I wasn't sure what this would look like.
Notice how double-toned the blushers look! First time I tried layering with two blushes.
The lip colour up close! I think I drew over my lip a little bit. Oops. =P
Overall look!
Overall I love this palette: 4/5
Very, very, very basic palette that I think a first timer can get because theBalm offers excellent grade eyeshadows and blushes at this discounted price. It is way better than the time I had to get separate SilkyGirl Eye Duos, and top with with eyeliners, mascaras, etc. In the end, it busted my budget for first time makeup.
I just don't quite like the texture of the lip colour. But in terms of colour payoff and how lasting it is, I am satisfied. =)
